There are many different types of untreated water and each requires a different method of treating for either human use or consumption.

There are many treatment methods available with different levels of effectiveness depending on the type of unfiltered water and level of bacterial removal required. Usually methods are combined to form a process in order to meet the clients filtration requirements. 

 

The methods are:

• Abstractions screens; prevent wild life from being drawn into aqueducts, dams, cooling water intake etc, and are installed at the water inlet

• Media filtration; bed of sand, zeolite, carbon, or other material is used to filter the water

• Micro filtration; removes contaminants from fluid and gas through micro-porous membrane or variable pore micro-filter

• Ultra-filtration; uses a semi-permeable membrane to filter viruses and bacteria (is a finer filtering process then microfiltration)

• Disinfection; kills any pathogens passing though the system that may include viruses and bacteria, through either tablet or liquid, ultraviolet and ozone disinfection systems
